Ortur H20 20 W is a laser engraver with an enclosed housing, designed for engraving and cutting wood, leather and stainless steel. The three-layer construction allows the housing to be quickly disassembled for transport. The motorised platform raises the laser module for working with thick workpieces. The built-in camera and automatic edge detection ensure positioning accuracy without manual operator adjustment.

Parameter Your benefit
Laser module power: 20 W Sufficient energy to cut dense materials and engrave stainless steel in a single pass.
Maximum speed: 20,000 mm/min Reduces the time needed for batch orders without losing contour sharpness.
Working area: 420 × 300 mm Accommodates A3-format workpieces without repositioning.
Camera: 200,000 pixels Allows the design to be placed on the material directly from the app screen.

Enclosed construction: the integrated housing contains smoke and dust, keeping the workspace clean throughout the entire engraving cycle.

Wireless signal transmission: the absence of cable connections between modules reduces the risk of wire tangling on the worktable.

Automatic edge detection: the system recognises the workpiece boundaries independently, reducing positioning errors on repeated runs.

Laser engraving technology

At the heart of the Ortur H20 20 W is a 20 W laser module, suitable for both engraving and cutting. The module produces over 380 colour shades on stainless steel through controlled surface heating without chemical etching.

The laser module, shown below, clearly illustrates the head layout relative to the working area.

The overall layout diagram explains how the individual modules — the laser head, air pump and positioning camera — form a working area of 1,260 cm².

Design and mechanics

Three-layer quick assembly

The three-layer housing structure allows layers to be removed and installed without tools, simplifying maintenance and transport of the device.

The housing, disassembled into its component layers, demonstrates how the laser module, control unit and cover connect to one another.

Motorised lifting platform

The Ortur H20 20 W motorised platform raises the laser head using an electric drive, allowing engraving of workpieces up to 98 mm high without manual height adjustment.

Wireless module connection

The absence of connecting cables between the laser head and control unit eliminates wire clutter above the working area during head movement.

The internal housing structure with illuminated guide rails illustrates the head's path of movement without external wiring.

Camera and precise positioning

The 200,000-pixel camera supports machine vision algorithms that improve the accuracy of overlaying the design onto the workpiece.

The angular placement of the lens relative to the aluminium laser head housing is visible in the image below.

Visual positioning aligns the design coordinates with the actual position of the workpiece on the table, reducing preparation time before starting a job.

Automatic edge detection identifies the workpiece boundaries without manually setting a zero point, reducing errors on repeated runs.

Enclosed working area and ventilation

The integrated housing contains smoke and fine dust within the working area, reducing strain on the operator's respiratory system during prolonged use.

Through the semi-transparent housing, the fan, laser module and guide rails are visible as engraving smoke rises.

The built-in extraction fan connects to a ducting system and vents odours outside, keeping indoor air fresh.

The open smoke-tinted cover in the image below shows the engraving of a cat image during active ventilation.

The protective smoke-tinted cover blocks direct exposure of laser radiation to the eyes, while still keeping the engraving process visible for monitoring.

The open cover in the photo below demonstrates both eye protection and visibility of the cat image engraving process.

Automatic lid locking stops the laser as soon as the cover is opened during an engraving cycle, preventing accidental exposure of the operator.

Safety systems

Laser class 1 meets the requirements for a safe operating environment without additional personal protective equipment for the operator.

Motherboard programme monitoring tracks voltage and current in real time, maintaining stable operation of the laser module.

The emergency stop button provides instant shutdown of the device in critical situations.

Filtering of 97% of light radiation, combined with exposure duration control, limits the operator's total exposure to laser light.

Active position protection monitors tilt and vibration of the housing, stopping operation if there is deviation from the normal position.

Laser beam protection is complemented by a USB watchdog function, which monitors connection stability during printing.

Software and connectivity

The Ortur H20 20 W works with three software environments: the proprietary ORTUR app, the paid LightBurn, and the free LaserGRBL. Connection is via Wi-Fi or USB, with job status displayed on a 1.3-inch OLED screen.

Screens from the three programmes illustrate different design preparation scenarios — from the mobile app to the desktop editor.

Applications

  • Design workshop: the motorised platform allows engraving items of different thicknesses without readjusting height between orders.

  • Branding notebooks and packaging: the 200,000-pixel camera allows precise placement of the logo on each item in a batch.

  • Gift packaging: the 420 × 300 mm working area accommodates large paper and wood workpieces in a single run.

  • Educational workshops: the enclosed housing and lid locking allow classes with children to be held without additional protective goggles for onlookers.

  • Engraving knife stands: 20 W of power is sufficient for a crisp contour on hardwood in a single pass.

The image below shows five usage scenarios for the device — from a design workshop to engraving a knife stand.
