The Bambu Lab PLA Basic Filament, 1.75 mm, 1 kg × 4 (With Spool) – CMYK is a four-colour lithophane bundle engineered for multi-material CMYK printing workflows on Bambu Lab printers equipped with AMS. It includes Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Jade White PLA spools — each 1 kg — allowing layered colour mixing to produce full-colour, backlit 3D lithophane panels from standard photographic images.

Full-Colour Lithophane Printing with CMYK PLA
Lithophane printing relies on light transmission through varying wall thicknesses to render tonal detail. The CMYK bundle takes that principle one step further: by stacking translucent Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow layers over a Jade White base, the Bambu Lab PLA Basic Filament, 1.75 mm, 1 kg × 4 (With Spool) – CMYK replicates subtractive colour mixing directly in the printed object. The result is a full-colour image that emerges only when backlit — a display format impossible to achieve with a single-colour filament.
The image below shows the range of outputs achievable with this bundle, from macro photography reproduction to Van Gogh-style paintings and family portraits — all rendered as framed, backlit 3D panels.
Each filament in the bundle is matched to a precise hex colour value so that your slicer can assign the correct AMS slot without guesswork. Cyan (#0086D6), Magenta (#EC008C), and Yellow (#F4EE2A) act as the three process colours; Jade White (#FFFFFF) provides the reflective substrate layer that makes backlit colour rendering possible. Without the white base, transmitted light has nothing to scatter against, and the CMYK overlay produces muddy rather than vivid tones.
XY resolution in lithophane work is primarily governed by nozzle diameter and layer height, not print speed. A 0.2 mm nozzle with layer heights between 0.08 mm and 0.12 mm captures fine photographic gradients that a standard 0.4 mm nozzle cannot resolve at equivalent heights. Reducing layer height increases print time substantially but is the single most impactful variable for colour fidelity.
The comparison below illustrates why the full four-colour CMYK workflow outperforms a monochrome approach for photographic subjects — the multicolour version preserves hue shifts across the subject's coat and background flowers.
Bambu Lab's own Make My Lithophane tool generates print-ready 3MF files directly from a JPG image. It pre-assigns colour parts to the correct AMS slots and sets first-layer height to 0.15 mm automatically — removing the manual configuration steps that make traditional lithophane workflows error-prone. The generated file requires no further modification before slicing in Bambu Studio.
Warping is the primary failure mode in thin-walled lithophane prints. Keeping the heated bed between 45 °C and 50 °C reduces differential contraction at the base without overheating the PLA, which becomes dimensionally unstable above approximately 60 °C. All four compatible Bambu build plate surfaces offer sufficient adhesion at these temperatures; the Cool Plate SuperTack is particularly suited to the low-temperature bed range this bundle requires.
The following walkthrough video from Bambu Lab demonstrates the complete CMYK lithophane process, from image upload to a finished backlit print:
Tech Tip: When loading the four spools into your AMS, match the physical slot order to the colour assignment in Bambu Studio before slicing. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Jade White must correspond precisely to slots 1–4 (or whichever mapping your 3MF file defines). A mismatch does not cause a print failure — the printer simply deposits the wrong colour at each layer, and the resulting image will not be recoverable once printing is complete.
