3D scanner Revopoint MetroX Pro Standard Edition — an industrial blue-light scanner for reverse engineering parts with complex geometry. Handheld scanning of glossy, dark or mirror-like surfaces traditionally requires applying a matting spray, which extends preparation time. The device eliminates this step: multi-line laser scanning works without spray even on black metal. The model combines industrial volumetric accuracy with four capture modes for parts of any texture.
Key features and advantages
- Volumetric accuracy: 0.02 mm + 0.04 mm × L (m) — the model maintains its stated accuracy on objects of different sizes, so the result is suitable for metrological control without additional verification.
- Single-frame accuracy: up to 0.02 mm — each individual frame captures fine surface detail, reducing the need for repeat scanning of complex areas.
- Scanning speed: up to 7,000,000 points/s — full-field structured light shortens processing time for multi-part objects in the production cycle.
- Scanner weight: 508 g — the lightweight design allows the scanner to be held in one hand during extended handheld capture without fatigue.
- Spray-free scanning: matting spray is not required even on glossy or black surfaces, removing the preparation step before capture.
- Automatic scanning on a turntable: the included dual-axis turntable performs a full colour scan of the part in a single click, without manually rotating the object.
- Live scan streaming: the Revo Mirror app shows the scanning process on a phone or tablet in real time. This lets the operator spot gaps in the data without holding a laptop.
Scanning technology
The scanner combines four capture modes, so the operator selects the optimal method for the part's texture without changing equipment. The working distance is 200–400 mm, and the angular field of view reaches 43 × 33°. The minimum scan volume is 10 × 10 × 10 mm, and the maximum is 1 × 1 × 1 m, covering both small components and medium-sized assemblies.

The single-capture area expands together with the distance to the object: 160 × 70 mm at 200 mm and 320 × 215 mm at 400 mm. This allows moving from small parts to larger assemblies without changing the scanner settings.

The following shows how the device switches between laser and structured light modes during a single scanning session.
Cross lines
The cross-lines mode uses up to 30 blue laser lines and generates up to 2,000,000 points per second. The method captures flat, glossy or dark surfaces without applying a matting spray, removing the preparation step before capture.

On production parts with reflective coating or dark colour, the scanner maintains stable geometry tracking. Laser lines are projected directly onto the surface.

Parallel lines
The parallel-lines mode operates with 15 laser stripes and is designed for fine surface details, edges and complex surfaces. The narrow line pitch increases point density in areas with sharp geometric transitions.

Full-field structured blue light
62-line structured light generates up to 7,000,000 points per second and does not require markers on the part's surface. This shortens preparation for objects with plenty of their own geometric features.

Single-frame accuracy of up to 0.02 mm is maintained on fine surface details, so the final mesh conveys detail without additional smoothing.

Automatic scanning on a turntable
The included dual-axis turntable synchronises with Revo Scan and rotates the part automatically, so the operator starts a full rotation with a single press. The HD RGB camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels captures colour only in this mode, adding texture to the final model.

Accuracy and tracking methods
The scanner's volumetric accuracy is 0.02 mm + 0.04 mm × L (m), where L is the length of the object, so the deviation predictably increases with part size. The point spacing after frame merging reaches 0.05 mm, which is sufficient for dimensional verification in metrology.
High single-frame precision of up to 0.01 mm and accuracy of up to 0.02 mm are achieved thanks to the calibration board. It checks the optical system's parameters before each session.
- By geometry (Feature): tracking relies on the part's own contours — this mode is suitable for objects with sufficient inherent geometric features.
- By markers (Marker): adhesive markers on the surface or around the object compensate for missing geometry on smooth or symmetrical parts.
- By global markers (Global Marker): an extended set of markers in the working area increases volumetric accuracy when scanning large or multi-part assemblies.
Software and automation
The kit comes with free Revo Scan and Revo Metro software for macOS and Windows. Finished models are exported in PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, 3MF, GLTF and FBX formats for further work in CAD or a slicer.
Scanning workflow
Revo Metro guides the operator through four processing steps — from setting capture parameters to exporting the finished model.
- Scanning: detailed settings allow control over every parameter of the capture process.
- Processing: the raw point cloud is converted automatically with one click or manually using merging and meshing tools.
- Editing: excess data is removed, holes are filled, and the surface is smoothed and simplified.
- Export: the finished model is saved in a format compatible with quality control software, CAD and 3D printing.
The Revo Metro interface displays each stage in real time and allows the quality of the final model to be assessed immediately.

Streaming and hardware acceleration
The Revo Mirror app streams the scanning process from a PC to a phone, tablet or display in real time. This feature is available only on the MetroX Pro. The operator sees gaps in the data and can move around the object without holding a laptop.
A 4-core ARM processor running at 2.0 GHz performs depth computation directly inside the scanner housing. GPU acceleration on NVIDIA RTX 30 and 40 series cards increases the scanning rate up to 60 frames per second on Windows.
Scan control
Four physical buttons on the housing control start, pause, depth-camera exposure and digital zoom without switching to the software interface.
Safety
The scanner's laser projector complies with safety class 2M. Direct eye exposure to the beam at close range should be avoided, and it should not be viewed through optical magnifying devices.
The device emits flickering light during operation, which may not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
Applications
- Reverse engineering: multi-line laser modes capture geometry with an accuracy of up to 0.02 mm per frame. The point cloud is transferred to Revo Design to build a parametric CAD model without manual surface retouching.
- Quality control: together with Revo Measure, the scanner compares the scanned part with the nominal CAD model and shows dimensional deviations. This means checking production batches takes minutes instead of hours of manual measurement.
- Additive manufacturing: volumetric accuracy is 0.02 mm + 0.04 mm × L (m). This allows the creation of digital twins of small and medium-sized parts for reproduction, repair or redesign without re-engineering from scratch.
- Rapid prototyping: high-precision dimensional data reduces the number of print iterations, since deviations from the technical specification are identified before the production cycle even starts.
Compatible accessories and mounts
The scanner supports a dual-axis turntable for automatic colour scanning. It also supports a set of marker blocks for quickly creating a marker environment on objects without their own geometric features.
