UltiMaker PET CF Carbon Fibre Composite for 3D Printing
For straightforward printing of strong, precise tools, meet the UltiMaker PET CF carbon fibre composite. This is a Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) filament reinforced with carbon fibre.
UltiMaker PET CF is available in several colours, easy to use, and highly versatile.
The material offers the same reliable printability as PETG, whilst delivering greater stiffness, chemical resistance, and heat resistance (up to 180 °C after annealing). An additional advantage is that the properties of printed parts can be further enhanced through annealing, which significantly improves the strength, stiffness, and thermal and chemical stability of the finished component. With this in mind, PET CF is an excellent composite material for 3D printing in industrial environments — ideal for functional prototypes, production aids, and spare parts.
UltiMaker PET CF Specifications

Advantages of UltiMaker PET CF
Compared to other composites — particularly PA CF — this material is easier and more reliable to use, offers better dimensional stability, and delivers an excellent surface finish. It also has relatively low moisture absorption, which not only allows spools to be used straight from the box, but also ensures the dimensional stability of prints once parts are complete. In terms of mechanical and thermal properties, PET CF is comparable to composites such as PA CF, with even greater stiffness. However, it does have lower impact resistance and lower Z-strength.
The key advantages of UltiMaker PET CF carbon fibre composite over other materials in the UltiMaker range are its greater stiffness and heat resistance after annealing, whilst printing remains highly reliable and consistently high in quality.
Particularly in the plane where the fibres are oriented (the lateral plane, YZ), the flexural modulus reaches nearly 9 GPa.
Printing with UltiMaker PET CF Filament
With lower hygroscopicity compared to other carbon fibre materials, PET CF requires minimal drying. Stored in the UltiMaker Material Station, it remains in excellent condition for reliable printing and consistently high quality. PET CF can also be used for dual-extrusion printing in combination with PVA, Breakaway, or another colour of PET CF — giving users complete design freedom and enabling the creation of complex composite parts without geometric limitations.
UltiMaker PET CF carbon fibre composite is available in black, grey, and blue. This unique characteristic allows users to colour-code carbon fibre prints to meet specific application requirements or aesthetic preferences.
The material is fully integrated into the UltiMaker platform through NFC material recognition technology on the spools, dedicated PrintCore CC modules, support material compatibility, and ready-to-use print profiles.
For users who need a complete composite printing solution, PET CF is also available as part of the PET Carbon Fibre Expansion Kit. The expansion kit includes two spools of black PET CF, one blue, and one grey. It also includes a 0.4 mm PrintCore CC and a 0.6 mm PrintCore CC.

Applications
The outstanding mechanical properties of UltiMaker PET CF make it possible to produce strong, precise parts across a wide range of applications. Print production tools and fixtures, as well as end-use parts. Manufacturers can also take advantage of PET CF to create engineering prototypes, enabling thorough and straightforward testing of technical concepts and functions. In addition, PET CF provides a reliable solution for replacing damaged or hard-to-source production parts. By leveraging its excellent mechanical and thermal properties, manufacturers can quickly print replacement components, eliminating the need for costly production line downtime. The material's outstanding strength and stiffness make it ideal for high-demand applications.
One of the defining characteristics of PET CF is the ability to achieve even greater strength, stiffness, and heat resistance through annealing. This allows printed parts to reach a heat resistance of up to 181 °C, with strength increasing by up to 30% and stiffness by up to 10%.
