Bambu Lab AMS Automatic Material System

The AMS (Automatic Material System) from Bambu Lab is designed for multicolour 3D printing. AMS allows the printer to switch automatically between different colours or material types, making the printing process more flexible and convenient. The system is designed for use with Bambu Lab 3D printers and supports up to four different materials simultaneously.

Hassle-free support removal

With AMS, Bambu Lab printers can use removable support material or soluble filament for easier support removal.

No more wasted filament

Without AMS, when a filament spool runs out, you need to replace it manually — interrupting the print and wasting material.

With AMS, switching to a new spool happens seamlessly, ensuring continuous printing and reducing waste.

Bambu Lab AMS

Backup filament

Your print never stops, thanks to automatic spool switching. With the AMS backup filament feature, you can rest easy knowing your printer won't run out of filament while you sleep or step away. This ensures a smooth, uninterrupted printing process, eliminates filament waste, and improves energy efficiency.

Intelligent system

Built on a 32-bit MCU, sensor arrays, actuators, and an advanced algorithm, AMS delivers outstanding intelligence. It handles filament loading and unloading seamlessly, along with efficient fault detection and resolution.

Filament tangle detection

If the filament at the print head encounters resistance — such as a tangle or a stuck spool — AMS instantly detects the issue and pauses the print to prevent air printing.

Say goodbye to damp filament

Filament that has absorbed moisture can cause print quality issues, poor layer adhesion, and even nozzle blockages — all of which can lead to a failed print.

Keep your filament dry

AMS features an airtight seal and uses desiccant material to absorb moisture, keeping it well away from your filament.

The built-in humidity sensor monitors the moisture level inside the AMS and alerts the user if humidity is too high or if the desiccant needs replacing.

For the best print quality, using dry filament is essential.

Automatic filament identification

Bambu Lab filaments are equipped with RFID tags that AMS reads for automatic material identification and application of optimal settings.

The RFID tag syncs automatically with Bambu Studio.

For non-Bambu Lab filaments, settings must be configured manually, either in Bambu Studio or directly on the printer.

Support for up to 16 colours simultaneously

Each Bambu Lab AMS unit has 4 filament slots, and you can install up to 4 AMS units in parallel, allowing up to 16 colours for vibrant, unique prints. To achieve 16-colour printing, connect 4 AMS units via an AMS hub.
