ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is an opaque thermoplastic filament for 3D printing with mechanical properties similar to those of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). It also offers improved resistance to UV rays and harsh weather conditions. As a result, it is commonly used in applications where colour retention and outdoor durability are essential.
ASA is an opaque amorphous thermoplastic, structurally similar to ABS. ASA boasts slightly superior mechanical properties, though it can sometimes come at a higher cost. Since ABS is widely popular and available in far more options, it is generally recommended for applications where outdoor exposure is not a concern.

Recommended Print Parameters for Premium ASA
- Nozzle Temperature: 240 – 260 °C
- Build Plate Temperature: 75 – 100 °C
- Layer Height: 0.1 – 0.25 mm
- Print Speed: 25 – 80 mm/s
- Layer Fan: Low or Off
- Drying Temperature: 80 °C
Printing Characteristics for Premium ASA:
- For improved layer adhesion, it is recommended to print with a brim or raft (separation distance of 0.15 – 0.20 mm), set the build plate temperature to 110 °C, and turn off the cooling fan for the first layers.
- Polylactic Acid (PLA) can be used as a breakaway support material for ASA.
